And Now, On To The Track!

March 17, 2008, updated April 28, 2009

At SE 31st Avenue and Powell Boulevard is a highly used community athletic facility. While the lights and synthetic turf field are shining testaments to the efforts and support of this project – an ongoing effort by dedicated parents, alumni, administration, neighbors, businesses and community-minded interests – the track is desperately in need of repair. The dilapidated state of this asset is now unusable for any track meets, as verified by Cleveland High School Athletic Director Mike Shanahan.

In light of refurbishing the track ASAP, we at the Project are working behind the scenes to secure the necessary permits and funding to complete this phase this summer. Total cost is $275,000. Thanks to committed pledges, $190,000 in cash and pledges has been raised. To cross the Finish Line of Phase 2, we need an additional $85,000. Further delay means additional increases and duplication of costs, not to mention reduced usability!

Installed this fall, our all-weather, durable field is meeting the increasing demand for playing space in Southeast Portland. Once the lanes of our polyurethane 5000 track are laid which will serve the community for years, we are looking forward to the final touches of the next phases: improving the grandstands, replacing the fencing, enhancing the concession area and landscaping!
